It would be worthwhile to notice how Alberto Toscano’s Translator’s Note to the book discusses extensively Beckett’s use of the language (bilingualism in) his drive to experiment, self-translate, shortcut, twist, extend the language, quite differently from floral multi-layered epithets of Nabokov’s aristocratic self-celebrating prose. I think this exposition helped me to better grasp Badiou’s superb choice of Mandelshtam’s poem, difficult, with accurate, precise metaphors depicting the Century, as the centerpiece of his analysis of it.
